Previous() Function

This function is needed to replace the crystal reports. It will also help with the creation of the Running Sum function

    Some User Case

    Previous() function is a direct replacement for a crystal reports function. The addition of this function would (Darius):

    • Enable us to use running sums that will allow us to create balance reports with multiple accounts.

    • Allow us to create line numbers in the reports

    • Replace a lot of functions that previously relied on the “whileprintingrecords” feature in the crystal reports.

    • Enhance our ability to create “time-series” reports.

    • Overall improve the reporting capabilities.

    Paul - I have used this in the past where we cycle through the resultset after it has already been grouped, and then use the Previous function to determine what to output in the current row.

    An example from Meta GL Interface Crystal Report where we have to define certain values in a field we have said if Previous GL Entry code is ‘A B or C’ then output X here, otherwise output Y.

    Also used in the Meta GL Interfaces to determine when we change Deal Set.

    Records are being output at GL entry line level, but we need to know if the current record is part of the same dealset as the previous record or not to define the required output.

    Han - On top of what other guys have said, Previous() function will make it easier to identify fields that have same/different value as previous record hence aid in formatting and display. e.g. work as something like a Duplicate function.
